In an effort to return to the glory days of the legendary Big Dog Shootout, the staff and management of Piedmont Dragway are announcing major changes to the Thursday night shootout. With Real Pro Mod costs reaching levels that all but eliminate the everyday racer, the following changes have been put forth. Please note that this is not the complete rulebook so please go to the Piedmont website for specifics. There will be three major classifications running in what is now “Original Big Dog” and they are as follows:

(1) Blower cars will feature no Hemis, no billet blowers, and a max of 29% overdrive
(2) Nitrous cars are broken down according to bore spacing with a max of 5.00 and 785 cubic inches
(3) All motor is limited to 5.00 bore space and 820 cubic inches

All classes have been given a weight break of 50 pounds or more. As before, no turbos, no Pro Chargers, and no Hemis with blowers.

Rules regarding the size of nitrous bottles, according to weight or size, are on the website. If you are a competitor, please check for specifics as to how it will affect your car. There will also be an increase in the purse across the board. It is yet to be determined.

The Pro Mods will be running Saturday shows in combo with EOPM and will be totally separate from the “Original Big Dog”.

The track known as “The Doorslammer Capital of the World” looks for great shows and a huge turnout of racers and fans alike, in this 20th Anniversary of the Big Dog Shootout, named by Drag Illustrated as the best single track event in the country.
