The use of Roman Numerals dates back to ancient times where things were probably a lot simpler than today. Footbrake racing similarly dates back to the early days of the sport where electronics had yet to creep into use. Footbrake racers do it the old-fashioned way with no electronics allowed. However, that doesn’t mean the racing is any less competitive. With the reaction times and consistent elapsed times produced by this group of talented racers, you’d swear electronics have to be used. Not so, though.
So for MMXVI (2016) some of the best footbrake racers in the country will descend this week on Bristol Dragway for the X (10th) version of the BTE World Footbrake Challenge presented by Yukon Gear & Axle.
“We are so excited to get this party started and a special thanks has to go out to BTE Racing for their support of the World Footbrake Challenge for all ten years,” said Jared Pennington, co-promoter of the event.
Over the last ten years, the concept has remained the same with racers vying for big bucks. The format will remain the same with three main events paying $10,000-to-win on Friday and Sunday, with $20K up for grabs on Saturday. Each of those events will also now feature round money paid to second round winners, revolutionary for a race of this stature, along with an increase in semifinal round finishes. Two World Footbrake Gamblers races will take place on Thursday and Friday, and as is common for all Coalburg Racing Promotions events, all of the purse money is 100-percent guaranteed.
“Yukon Gear and Axle signed up as a round prize sponsor with us for the first time in 2015 and they were so impressed that they decided to up the ante and become the presenting sponsor of the WFC X, and we’re so happy to have them on board,” says Pennington.
The famous WFC Saturday night Racer Appreciation BBQ will once again feed anyone in the house and Huntsville Engine and Performance will be providing free ice cream for all having to buyback.
